Ruffles

We are in the middle of an amazing run for early April. We've seen Orcas for four out of the last five days. No news yet today.

We have a trip going out today at 1:00 PM and have room for 4. Of course we are still seeing every day seals, sea lions, eagles, porpoise, and lots of other birds. Sometimes otter and mink, and the wildlife on

Speiden, like the baby wild lambs, is amazing.

OK...I gotta brag a bit. J Pod was located about 2:30 this afternoon down toward Dungeness Spit.

The Peregrine was near Kelp Reef looking at Dall's Porpoise when we got the news and took off. 35 minutes later, after a trip at well over 30 knots, we got there and had a great time.

Once again, we were the only U.S. boat to see the Orcas!

Thanks for listening. The pic is of J42 and mom J16.

Oyster Catchers

April 8, 7:56 am

Though everyone had a great time, no Orca were sighted yesterday, for the first time in four days. We had J Pod on Friday and Saturday, and Transient Orcas on Sunday.

I missed seeing the Ts because I was in Pt. Townsend on Sunday, watching my grandson Ike walk for the first time. He is also throwing a ball overhand, which I'm told is very advanced for his age. It was better than seeing Orca.

Wow! J Pod again today! They came down the West Side from the North this

morning. We left them this afternoon headed south near Hein Bank.

I just got a call from Ivan (Western Prince) that there are Transient Orcas near the County Park on the West Side headed north.

Lots of Orcas for this time of the year.

Sea lions sunbathing

Despite the clouds, we had a wonderful trip yesterday with folks from France, Michigan and Seattle. We spent 45 minutes with about 30 Dall's Porpoise playing around the boat, loads of Eagles, and 20 or so Steller Sea Lions near Speiden Island.

It's a beautiful day today in the San Juans. No clouds, no wind, and the smell of wood fires in the air.

J Pod, which has been down in Puget Sound, came north yesterday and by the afternoon was near Pt. Towsend. They could be near San Juan Island today. They spend time in Puget Sound (south of Pt. Townsend) every year for the Chum Salmon runs.

J Pod was sighted yesterday south of Victoria headed east and a Humpback was also seen. No sightings today yet.

We are seeing every day lots of very friendly Dall's, and Sea Lions and Seals and Eagles and a wonderful collection of waterfowl...

We have trips with room going out tomorrow and Tues and Wednesday. It looks like some clear weather headed this way.

We are still seeing Humpbacks, and J Pod is still in the area, we think. Lots of other wildlife...
